Potty time, Potluck, Going Potty, Gone to Pot. All possible titles for this post.
Last weekend I realised that I'd missed the annual Potfest that takes place in Perth at the end of May. I love to go to it as it takes place inside the Perth farmers' market where they would usually sell livestock. (Puns about bulls and china shops are stampeding and gambolling through my mind).
I'm always astonished at the wide variety of work and how so many different styles, themes and variations can come from one 'medium' of clay - from kitchen cups to birds.
Simon Griffiths is one of my favourite exhibitors, and I always dash to see what he has brought each year. He is a sculptor of birds (especially owls) and somehow marvellously captures not only the bird's spirit but portrays their feathers in the earthiness of clay and paint!
Instead I had been oggling these pots
in the local Oxfam for a couple of weeks. They are 'vintage' Hornsea, and although slightly ugly, I have a great fondness for them. Cleaned up and with the tops resanded and oiled (thanks to you-know-who) I'm quite pleased with them and the recycled ethos. Picked out the ones that didn't say tea and coffee as they probably won't get used for that, but I do like the green pot with Sugar written on.
Think it is my favourite - being a fan of fonts and graphics - it's not a typeface you get to see & use everyday!
Oh I love these! I'm banned from buying them though, as my other half thinks they are far too ugly (and we have no more space...)I do like the flour one.

these are so great- and i'm sure we used to have a brown one for flour when i was a child. the sugar font is really amazing.
i also like the sound of Potfest- there must be so many jokes over that name! i'm off to check out the details now. have a great weekend, c xx
