...not quite what I had in mind!
Spotted a week or so ago in my tree! A small bird of prey.. which I'm now unsure what it was. I didn't think it was a buzzard, as it was really small - my first thoughts were a kestrel or sparrowhawk, but not sure about the colouring. Any ideas?
Although it was very cheeky of it to be preying on the little birds who come to the nut feeder - I did feel a sense of awe watching this bird in the garden. I watched as it swooped on an unsuspecting bluetit, who managed to escape by flying behind the composter. The dexterity of this wee hawk was amazing as it flew with it's feet and talons extended to try and catch the bird. Then with a loop and a twist it had gone between the gap in the firtrees and off to pastures new.
This rather fuzzy picture gives a better idea of the colours, and the yellow of it's feet!
I lurk around here quite a bit but have never posted a comment as of yet. I saw your bird post and couldn't resist. My dad taught me about birds when I was a kid. To me it looks like a red tailed hawk.
