A simpler one today… a gift tag made from secondhand sheet music. Simply stick the sheet to card backing, and then trim to required size. You could get a few from one sheet.
I’m going to let you into my trade secret here… should I?... Ok then, because you’re going to have to be keen to do this anyway… Use pritt/UHU stick to cover one of the surfaces (thoroughly - no gaps), after glueing down your sheet, use a rolling pin (I also use a piece of paper inbetween for protecting the card surface and stop picking up ink on the roller) to flatten out any possible bumps. Place under a stack of heavy books – overnight or for a few hours. This gives a nice, flat and professional look, before trimming to size. Use a hole punch and tie ribbon, twine, string, embroidery or linen thread.
Here’s something I’ve not done in a while. A-get out my sewing machine, B- make a patchwork nelliphant. I haven’t made one of these for over a year, but as a special request for a colleague – here is Marge. She has her trunk packed, ready to fly off to a new home and baby girl before Christmas.
You may also have noticed I’ve reopened the patchwork dress Etsy shop up there in the side bar, and put up some of my ‘winter cards’ for sale. They are all my own photographs, printed & handmade by me, using quality recycled card and envelopes.
The angel card in particular is one I would like to share, as it is such a special and serendipitous image. The A5 card is large enough to double as a photographic print, so makes an individual (and much discussed!) card. I plan to top the shop up with some eco magazine cards and tags (very popular at CL - nearly sold out) in the next few days. Please note I am going to donate 20% of any takings 8-13th December to the www.dec.org.uk Crisis Charity for the aid to the Congo.
Don't be put off by the prices shown in dollars (one of the drawbacks of Etsy, but otherwise it is a great system for you to order through securely) - I've converted the prices pretty directly and have shown the UK equivalents in the description. You can email me directly if you prefer to pay £-Sterling.
I will also be taking my cards to the Killearn Wee Green Christmas Market on Saturday13 December, which should promise to be a festive event!
I love Marge!

Okay, at this stage I know it will come as no surprise if I tell you that I have a little pack of luggage tags with vintage sheet music stuck to them! Love Marge she has real character. As for the angel card, well it's beautiful and magical, spellbinding.
