Ever since receiving this book - I have been wanting to make a little zipped bag. In fact, soon after I saw how easy it was (in the book!) to sew in a zip, I went out to the charity shop and came into a pile of old unused zips for less than £1!
It seemed as if they'd been left there - ideal for me to practice with. Since then I've found myself often lying in bed trying to mentally insert zips into lined bags and wondering how to do it... instead of doing it.
Today I plucked up the energy to have a go. I'm not sure that I followed Amy Karol's advice to the 'T'. I tend to try and do it myself, then backtrack later for advice to try and understand the process. Although the directions were good, there seemed to be a visual void in parts. I would probably have been better looking for a tutorial on Youtube. Because as good as books are, nothing is as effective as seeing it done!
The outside fabric is a remnant of Designers Guild from a pattern book, as is the lining, in beautiful pink striped silk bought from a remnant basket. The zip ribbon was a scrap from an offcut of VVRouleaux I had kicking around.
I'm not sure that I've got my zip technique perfect by any account, but it is my first attempt, and I'm fairly pleased with the result.
Way to go. I usually shy away from anything that mentions zippers so I am going to give it a try. Thank you for the inspiration.

Beautifully sewn! The fabrics and ribbon trim are perfect together. Great to have discovered all those bargain zippers, too, to encourage some more sewing.
Best wishes!
