Yes, 'Earls Hall', otherwise known as Grays Court! (must have been called that in a past life!?). Anyway, after a lot of walking around we thought it would be really nice to take tea on the lawn of this place that we had spotted from the old city wall..
It took a bit of finding, but was so worth it...
There was something very formally relaxed about the interior, with seating areas around old club type sofas or in windows..
We took tea on the lawn, and the service was blissfully slow - which meant they weren't in a hurry to get rid of us or 'cover tables'... it meant we could take the place in as if we were visiting.
Stained glass detail on the worn stone stairs - the panes were decorated with the marriage dates of the family who have lived in the property for years. This is also my parents anniversary... not 1701 of course!
This is perhaps my favourite view of the trip - I love the detail of this rather Aloe Vera/Iris'y type gate.
If you are ever in York, it is really worth finding - just secluded enough off the beaten track, yet a scone's throw from the city wall and Minster.
This looks like a lovely place and sounds good to take a cup of tea there - must check it out sometime.
